Tiny Toon Adventures

In 1990, while idly channel surfing, I happened across a cartoon featuring a blue bunny, a pink bunny, a green duck, and a pig with overalls. I watched for a few minutes, determined that it was a lame rip-off of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig, and changed the channel. Less than a year later, all the kids on the school bus are singing the theme song from a show called "Tiny Toon Adventures", and I'm back in front of the TV searching for it to find out what all the fuss was about. Although the singing on the bus was very short-lived, and I think most of my peers moved on pretty quickly, I was hooked, and continued to be an avid fan of the show, watching it whenever it was on, for at least three years after that.

To demonstrate the extent of my fan-dom, at one point I was happily waking up early on Saturday mornings to catch a weekly rerun, in spite of the fact that I had long since discovered that mornings are not my friends. None of the channels we got had been airing the show for a couple of months or so at the time, so when one channel brought it back at 8 AM on Saturday mornings, I started to diligently set my alarm so that I could watch it. (Still not sure why I didn't just program the VCR!) The first morning, I was so worried that I might miss it that I woke up periodically throughout the night in a panic - about once every hour starting at 2:30 AM.

This show was pretty short-lived - it only lasted a couple of seasons. Still, it did enjoy a period of immense popularity, and lots of merchandise was available for purchase at toy stores for a while, including a number of videos (see below). Sadly, I have very little of it - I was given two videos as gifts after having rented them and gone nuts over them, and I had a couple of paint-with-water picture books. I also received a third video as a gift more recently. I would be thrilled if I could purchase an archive of all the episodes and videos on DVD, but as far as I know this option is not available to me at this time. :(
